The hemodynamic response of the right ventricle following acute and chronic partial obstruction of the main pulmonary artery in dogs.

چکیده
In eight adult dogs the main pulmonary artery was constricted to elevate the right ventricular peak systolic pressure to 50% of the peak aortic pressure at rest. The response of the right ventricle was assessed immediately, at 30 minutes and at six months. The right ventricle responded to acute systolic loading by complete compensation. After 30 minutes there was a reduction in the right ventricular outflow tract resistance. The cardiac output, heart rate and aortic pressure were maintained. The right ventricular systolic ejection period, end-diastolic pressure, peak pressure time, mean systolic pressure, right ventricular-main pulmonary artery mean systolic gradient, right ventricular work index, systolic work and outflow tract resistance were all increased. The right ventricle in the dog was shown to have an immediate capacity to compensate for systolic loading and retains this capacity for long periods of time. The ability to increase work is accomplished by adaptations in right ventricular physiology which increase right ventricular mean systolic pressures and prolong the right ventricular ejection period.

• Numerous studies on the acute response to obstruction of the right ventricular outflow of animals with open and closed chests have been reported." However, little information is available on cardiac performance in preparations of long duration" and on the response of the right ventricle under increased stress, such as can be induced by exercise.' u Donald and Kirklin reported right ventricula...
متن کاملEffect of atrial septal defects on hemodynamic alterations caused by acute partial obstruction of pulmonary artery.
P investigations of the hemodynamic effects of progressive constriction of the pulmonary artery have demonstrated the basic principles of right ventricular compensation for an increase in resistance to outflow." Acute obstruction of the pulmonary artery results initially in an increase in right ventricular diastolic volume and in increased vigor of cardiac contraction, with maintenance of cardi...
متن کاملRight ventricular Hemodynamic Alteration after Pulmonary Valve Replacement in Children with Congenital Heart Disease
Introduction: In patients who underwent surgery to repair Tetralogy of Fallot, right ventricular dilation from pulmonary regurgitation may be result in right ventricular failure, arrhythmias and cardiac arrest. Hence, pulmonary valve replacement may be necessary to reduce right ventricular volume overload. The aim of present study was to assess the effects of pulmonary valve replacement on rig...
متن کاملEffect of losartan on NOX2 transcription following acute myocardial ischemia-reperfusion
Introduction: Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase-2 (Nox2) is one of the predominant sources of ROS production during myocardial ischemia-reperfusion and can be induced by angiotensin II. The evidence suggests that pharmacological blockers of renin-angiotensin system can exert direct tissue effects independent of their ability to regulate blood pressure. The mechanism...
متن کاملReduction of maximal coronary vasodilator capacity in conscious dogs with severe right ventricular hypertrophy.
Right coronary reactive hyperemia and the maximal coronary vasodilator response to adenosine were examined in conscious, normal dogs and dogs with right ventricular (RV) hypertrophy. RV hypertrophy was induced by chronic (5-7 months) pulmonary artery stenosis. With RV hypertrophy, RV weight to body weight ratio rose by 70% (P < 0.001), right coronary artery blood flow (Doppler ultrasonic techni...
